Youthbuild is ...

A comprehensive youth and community development program that supports workforce development for drop out youth between the ages of 16 - 24 in the United States, Youthbuild Grantees (nonprofits, agencies, and cities) receive resources from HUD to tackle several key community issues at once, strengthening their capacity to build and manage housing for their residents, educate and inspire their youth, create leadership for the future and generally take responsibility for their neighborhoods.

Specifically, the program aims to:

1Provide economically disadvantaged young adults with an educational experience that will enhance their employment skills, as a path toward achieving self-sufficiency.

2Foster the development of leadership skills and commitment to community. Expand the supply of permanent affordable housing for homeless and low- and very low-income persons by providing implementation grants carrying out a Youthbuild program.

3 Provide disadvantaged young adults with meaningful on-site training experiences in housing construction and rehabilitation that enables them to render a service to their communities by helping to meet the housing needs of homeless persons and low-income families; and

4Give, to the greatest extent possible, job training, employment, contracting and other economic opportunities to low-income young adults.
